About Horticultural Creations:

Tim Ramey

My company, Horticultural Creations, was formed with over thirty years of experience.  My philosophy has remained consistent: love nature, love people.

The forests, the woods and ponds have been very special to me. When I was young, nature's solitude, beauty and different types of life forms captured my imagination and kept me busy for hours. One day when I was around 12 years old, large excavating machines threatened to destroy my wonderland, I went into the woods, with a shovel in hand and a wheelbarrow by my side, to rescue all the baby trees.  I replanted them in my mom's backyard or sold them to neighbors at the local nursery. Since then, my love for plants and nature has only grown.

As a teenager, I learned to create and sustain vegetable gardens, perennial flower beds, fruit trees, lush green lawns and compost piles. I became a plant geek.  My older brother, a big influence in my life, was attending college for landscape architecture, and he shared his plant identification books with me.  I learned more through trips to the Arnold Arboretum and articles about the plant world and landscape design.

In my late teens, I started working for nurseries and landscape contractors, and my hobby transformed into a career. In 1979, I graduated from Mass Bay Community College with a degree in Horticultural Science. After college, I continued my education by taking courses in landscape design and construction. I also obtained certificates in green school, masonry / drainage, electricity, welding, and structural wood.  More than three decades later, I believe I have earned a degree in experience.

I combine my horticultural and landscape knowledge with a passion for quality service. I especially enjoy property consultations. While walking properties with home owners or discussing issues with other professional contractors, I find myself teaching about many things such as basic design concepts, the lost art of pruning, tree care, invasive weed control, drainage issues, insect/disease infestations, lack of ground covers, and overgrown perennial gardens.

Some clients love to walk their property and discuss what they would like to do, and one of my greatest joys is to teach them how to achieve it.  Some clients just want me to prune their ornamental tree. Some clients want me to do it all from consultation to installation. For all of my clients, no matter how big or small the job, I will give personal one-on-one attention. You will learn how to care for your newly planted gardens and landscapes. In addition, I am available to answer any questions that may arise once the work is complete. My goal is to educate my clients and to help nature be the best it can be.

Whether you are amateur or advanced gardener, it's worth it to hire an expert to manage your beautiful property transformation.  I can provide every service, from a design you can execute at your own pace and budget to entire project management from start to finish.  My horticultural knowledge and experience will help you decide just how much of the landscape transformation process you would like to do or have done.

For larger job projects requiring a design and installation, I will speak with your architect, builder, survey or other engineers as needed.  If necessary, I will visit your local town hall to clarify any needed permits, easements, wetlands or setback.  In addition, if any other contractor is to be used, I use only highly professional and qualified people whom I have worked with personally.

I thank all current clients for choosing Horticultural Creations and I look forward to consulting with anyone who would like to learn more about my services.
